Mayhem 2 main archive. Please read the full instructions.
MAYHEM 2 IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED.
It's highly recommended to install Mayhem on a fresh install. Mayhem is made of more than 300 scripts and overwrites many script from vanilla and Litcube's Universe. To start from a fresh install, copy the whole X3 folder into a new location. Make sure it's in English, and that you don't have the Bonus Package installed. If your copy is from Steam, use the no-steam exe file.
- Install Litcube's Universe, and patch it to 1.7.2. Don't forget the LU soundtrack and the GUI as well.
- Copy the content of this archive into your ...\x3 folder and overwrite LU files. Do not copy into your addon folder.
- Install the graphics pack into your ...\x3 folder. This pack is mandatory.
- Install the soundtrack for the new sectors into your ...\x3 folder. It will overwrite the soundtrack folder that already exists. All musics are royalty-free, from Free Music Archive.
Mayhem includes a catalog file named 10.cat/.dat by default. If you have other mods that uses this slot, use the fake patch method to rename it.
Mayhem only has one generic loading screenshot named "x3screen00001.jpg" that is located into ...\x3\addon\loadscr. If you're like me and don't like the other ones from LU, you can delete them.
Note that you can skip the game intro movies by adding "-skipintro" to your shortcut. And "-noabout" to remove splash screen.
- Copy the content of the archive into your ...\x3 folder and overwrite all files. Do not copy into your addon folder.
- Read the special instructions displayed in the changelog.
- Read the instructions on the Export/Import module page. If you don't know what this is, you don't need it.
There's a rich in-game documentation directly accessible from the Encyclopedia (Personal menu -> Advanced -> Encyclopedia -> Help section). Also remember that each command has a description that you can display when you highlight it and hit "i".
If you are a new player, it's highly recommended to start with the Beginner gamestart. Only this gamestart has a tutorial.
The mod being based on Litcube's Universe, I strongly recommend you to read the official wiki.
You can find more help on the Mayhem thread, on X3 reddit and on the Egosoft Unofficial Discord Server.
If you're looking for general early-game tips, here's a good starting point.
If you want external ship spreadsheet, visit the Mayhem Buddy page (thanks to deztar)...
... and also this one from Mordaen.
If you understand French, Calvitix made a Let's Play.
Last, but not least, you can follow this Tutorial Series, by Hector0x / Darth Fiscus (the guy who did the trailer!), and all his other videos.
- Mayhem removes Phanon and Revelation (OCV). All mods related to them are incompatible.
- IEX as a standalone is incompatible. Mayhem uses a modified version of it.
- X-Missions Reloaded is incompatible.
- Bounty Board is incompatible.
- MK3 Improvement Reloaded Reloaded is already included in Mayhem (modified version), thanks to gnasirator and Raaaak. All other traders-related mods, like OK Traders, are incompatible.
- Satellites Monitoring is already included in Mayhem (modified version).
- The Joubarbian Toolkit is already included in Mayhem (without most hotkeys).
- Cheat Package is already included in Mayhem (modified version that doesn't break your game).
- MLCC TM Compatibility is already included in Mayhem. (useful if you're using MLCC).
- ADS - Joubarbian Edition is compatible (carriers management). I personally don't use it anymore, because of the new fleet overhaul.

Question marks represent potential connections via Trans-Orbital Accelerators. These connections are randomly set when you start a new game.
- When you claim an abandoned ship, or buy a used ship, the ships that were hostile to its previous owner will sometimes turn against you, even if they're your friends.
- Ships created by the mission vanilla system sometimes receive more engine tunings that they're supposed to, resulting in extraordinary speed.
- Some rare ships are invulnerable. However, there is a script that make them jump out of existence whenever a ship has 0 hull and is not destroyed.
- Some ships will sometimes stop patrolling or defending a sector after being attacked. However, most of them are recalled after a while.
- Wings are unmodified, which leads to various bugs, especially one that makes them stuck on their current command and accept no others until you manually order a 'None' command.
Please provide a savegame if you can, and give as many details as you can. Remember that to fix a bug, I have to reproduce it. Report all your bugs on the Mayhem thread.
Customization / Localization
- You can customize a lot of gameplay values by simply editing two files inside the ...x3\addon\t folder. The files are named "7325-L044.xml" and "9972-L044.xml". In the latter, you can customize a lot of important stuff, such as instant jumps for invaders, invasion delays, crafting costs, factions aggressiveness, etc. Replayability guaranteed!
- Read more about gameplay customization here (outdated but still has good information).
- "9971-L044.xml" manages invasion ship templates, while "9973-L044.xml" takes care of OCV ship templates. "9974-L044.xml" is the in-game encyclopedia new articles.
- If you're wondering why Mayhem is not available in your language, please read this.
